Cleaned metal gutter under a standing seam roof, with a drip edge face-nailed by another installer and a nail backing out

We cleaned this gutter. The face-nailed drip edge was another installer's work.

Gutter work we do

What gutter work do you do?

We clean, repair, replace and install gutters and downspouts: aluminum, copper, half-round and K-style. We check the roof edge behind them too.

Cleaning

Leaves, seed pods and sludge out of the troughs by hand. We flush downspouts when you ask, when you've noticed a clog, or when we suspect one.

Why cleaning matters

Leaks and joints

We reseal leaking joints, end caps and corners, the spots that drip first.

Why gutters overflow

Sagging gutters

We rehang sagging runs and reset the pitch so water runs to the downspout.

Why gutters pull away

Replacement and new gutters

Damaged sections, a full run when the metal is too far gone, or new gutters. Aluminum, copper, half-round and K-style.

Types of gutters

Downspouts

Extensions, elbows, and the spots where water dumps next to the foundation.

Drip edge

When water runs behind the gutter, we add or extend drip edge so it drops into the gutter instead.

Roof edge check

While we're up there we look at the fascia and soffit, where a gutter problem turns into rot.

Window wells

Gutter guards

We clean or take off guards you already have. We install them if you want them, or where trees drop large fruit or flowers that can clog a downspout.

Not sure what you're looking at? If your gutters spill over in the rain, here's why gutters overflow. If water runs down between the gutter and the house, here's why water drips behind gutters. If a gutter is coming loose, here's why gutters pull away from the house.

Why it matters

Why do clogged gutters cause damage?

When gutters clog, water spills over the edge, soaks the fascia, and can work its way under the shingles. Baltimore gets hard rain and a lot of leaves, and that's how a gutter problem turns into a roof problem.

Most Baltimore homes need their gutters cleaned twice a year, in late spring and in late fall after the leaves are down. Homes under big oaks or maples often need a third cleaning. In winter a full gutter can freeze and push ice under the roof edge.

Omni-Roof cleans, repairs and replaces gutters on homes from the city out through Towson, Parkville, White Marsh, Lutherville-Timonium and Essex-Middle River. I'm James Preston, the owner, with 24+ years on thousands of homes. Licensed and insured, MHIC #154344, and BBB accredited.

Are gutter guards worth it?

What I see with guards
  • Most still clog with seeds, pine needles and grit
  • Some styles make cleaning harder
  • They still need checking
What we can do
  • Clean guards you already have
  • Take them off
  • Install them if you want them, or where trees drop large fruit or flowers that can clog a downspout

In my experience most homes don't need them. A cleaning twice a year does the job on most houses. If yours is one where guards make sense, I'll tell you.

How it works

Three steps. No sales pitch.

You talk to me, not a call center.

  1. 1

    Text me a picture

Send your address and a photo or two of the problem spot to (443) 900-4815. A photo from the ground is fine.

  2. 2

    We come out and look

I tell you what I see in your photos, then we come out and look at the gutters, the downspouts and the roof edge behind them.

  3. 3

I give you a written price

You get it in writing before any work starts. If it's something small and you OK it on the spot, we can take care of it while we're there.

Questions

Gutter questions

For a checklist you can use yourself, see our seasonal roof maintenance checklist. More in the roofing FAQs.

How often should gutters be cleaned in Baltimore?

Twice a year for most homes, once in late spring and once in late fall after most leaves have dropped. Homes with large oaks, maples or pines over the roof often need three or four cleanings a year.

Do gutter guards mean I never need cleaning?

No. Most guards still clog with seeds, pine needles and grit, and some make the gutter harder to clean. We can clean or remove guards you already have. We install guards if you want them, or where trees drop large fruit or flowers that can clog a downspout. Most homes don't need them.

What happens when gutters stay clogged?

Water overflows onto the fascia and foundation, softens the roof edge, and can get into the basement. It also stains the siding.

Do you repair gutters or only clean them?

Both. We clean gutters, reseal leaking joints, rehang sagging sections so they pitch to the downspout, replace damaged runs, and install new gutters: aluminum, copper, half-round or K-style. We flush downspouts when you ask or when a clog is noted or suspected.

Can clogged gutters cause roof leaks?

Yes. Water that can't drain backs up behind the gutter and under the first row of shingles, and it rots the fascia. In winter a full gutter can freeze and push ice under the roof edge.

Why does water run down behind my gutters?

Usually the roof edge doesn't reach far enough over the gutter, so water rolls under it and down the fascia. We add or extend drip edge so the water drops into the gutter. See water behind gutters for what to check.

How do I get a price?

Text your address and a few pictures of the problem spot to 443-900-4815, or call. I'll tell you what it looks like from the photos, then we come look in person. You get a written price before work starts, except small fixes you OK on the spot, which we can do while we're there.
